What is UX Motion Design?
UX motion design refers to the design of animated and interactive elements in a user interface, with the goal of improving the overall user experience. It involves the use of motion to guide the user's attention, provide visual feedback, and create a more engaging and intuitive experience.
UX motion design can be applied in various ways, such as creating micro-interactions for specific user actions, animating transitions between different screens or elements, and using animation to enhance visual storytelling. The key to successful UX motion design is to create animations that are purposeful and serve a specific function, while also being subtle and not overwhelming the user.
UX motion design requires a strong understanding of the principles of animation, as well as the latest design tools and techniques. It also involves close collaboration between UX designers and developers, as the design of animations must be translated into code for implementation.
What kind of services do you offer?
I offer UX motion design services to enhance user experience for applications. My services include creating motion systems that guide the user's attention and provide visual feedback. I design animations that are both purposeful and subtle, serving specific functions while avoiding overwhelming the user.
The final deliverable consists of motion designs for the entire application and timing specifications as needed. With a strong understanding of animation principles and expertise in the latest design tools and techniques, I create engaging and intuitive experiences for users.
I work closely with UX designers and developers as needed to ensure seamless integration of the motion designs into the application. My aim is to create a user-centered design that enhances the experience of using the application, making it more enjoyable and efficient. By offering my UX motion design services, I help businesses create applications with superior user experience.
Why should we work with you?
Many companies today recognize the value of incorporating motion design into their applications, but struggle with the technical aspects of building it. After having worked on the designs systems at Google, LinkedIn, Intuit, BMW and other, I am uniquely equipped with an expertise in UX Motion Systems implementation; I've worked with many brand name companies in successfully implementing motion design into their applications.
What sets my expertise apart is specifically in the engineering hand off phase of implementation; Over the past decade, I've worked closely with engineers to foresee and mitigate all possible issues that can arise in motion implemenation. My design process is streamlined and ensures no discrepancies between the design proposal and final build.
How can UX Motion Design improve user experience?
UX motion design can greatly improve user experience in several ways:
1. Guiding attention: Motion can be used to guide the user's attention to important elements in the interface and help them understand the relationships between different elements. This can make the interface easier to use and improve the overall user experience.
2. Providing feedback: Motion can be used to provide immediate feedback to the user after they perform an action. This can make the interface feel more responsive and improve the overall user experience.
3. Enhancing visual storytelling: By using animation, designers can create more engaging and visually appealing interfaces. This can improve the overall user experience and make the interface more memorable.
4. Improving usability: By animating transitions between different screens or elements, designers can make the interface feel more fluid and intuitive. This can improve the overall user experience and reduce confusion for users.
5. Making interfaces more engaging: Motion design can be used to add personality and character to interfaces, making them more engaging and enjoyable to use.In summary, UX motion design can make interfaces easier to use, more responsive, visually appealing, and engaging. By improving user experience, businesses can increase user satisfaction and engagement with their applications.
6. Spatial metaphors: Spatial design is an important aspect of UX motion design as it helps to define the relationships between elements in a user interface and how they move and interact with each other. Spatial design is about creating a sense of depth and dimension in a two-dimensional interface, making it easier for users to understand the relationships between elements and how to interact with them.
How do you work with clients?
After an introductory discussion where I understand the requirements of the application, I conduct an audit to assess what opportunities for UX motion exist in the application. Based on this audit, I create a comprehensive list of necessary UX animations for the application. This list, along with a cost and time estimate, is then included in a proposal that I present to the client. The proposal outlines the scope of the project and helps to ensure that the client understands the process and the expected outcome.
The final deliverable is a library of UX Motion Designs with their corresponding timing specifications as needed.
What kind of results can clients expect?
1. Improved User Experience: The main goal of UX motion design is to improve the overall user experience. With well-designed animations, users can more easily navigate the interface and understand the relationships between different elements. This can result in a more enjoyable and efficient user experience.
2. Increased User Engagement: Engaging animations can make the user experience more enjoyable and memorable. This can result in increased user engagement with the application and a more positive overall impression of the application.
3. Increased User Satisfaction: By improving the user experience, UX motion design can also increase user satisfaction. With a more intuitive and engaging interface, users are more likely to enjoy using the application and will be more likely to recommend it to others.
4. Better Usability: UX motion design can make interfaces easier to use by providing visual cues and feedback. This can result in reduced confusion and frustration for users, leading to a better overall usability.
5. Enhanced Brand Image: By providing a more engaging and visually appealing user experience, UX motion design can help to enhance the brand image of the application. This can result in increased brand recognition and a more positive overall impression of the company.
What is the cost of your services?
The cost of my UX motion design services typically varies based on the size and complexity of the application. While my minimum engagement starts at $30k, I'm open to discuss ways to accommodate different budgets. I offer flexible packages that can be tailored to fit different needs and budget sizes, so you can get the best possible UX motion design solution for your app.
Does UX Motion improve profitability?
Yes. Here are a few research results that show the impact that UX Motion Design has on user engagement and profitability:
1. A study by the Nielsen Norman Group found that animations can improve the usability of an app by 47%.
2. Another study by Google found that reducing the load time of an app by just 100 milliseconds can increase user engagement by up to 9%.
3. A study by the University of Michigan found that users were more likely to complete a task in an app that had clear and intuitive animations compared to an app without them. The study found that users were 25% faster at completing tasks in an app with animations.
4. A survey of app developers by Localytics found that apps with good animations and transitions had a higher retention rate, with up to 60% of users returning to the app the next day.
5. A study by the mobile app development firm Fueled found that apps with good UX motion design were able to generate up to 21% more revenue compared to apps without it.
